Description -- Three black trellis each with five rosebuds on the embossed Virginia Rose Rim. White background with scalloped platinum edge. 8 1/2" diameter. Excellent used condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. I have been unable to determine the exact pattern but I am estimating replacement value at around $16.00. Date stamped from the 1940's. Designed by Frederick Rhead.
Historical Data -- Founded in 1871 by Mr. Homer Laughlin, The Homer Laughlin China Company has been owned and operated by the Aaron and Wells families since their acquisition in 1897. Homer Laughlin remains the largest domestic pottery employing over 1100 skilled workers in a 37 acre facility.
Virginia Rose -- Virginia Rose was issued from 1929 on into the 1970's. It was named for the grandaughter of Mr W.E. Wells, the first of many Wells family managers who led the company for years, It is set off by a rose motif embossed into the rims of all the pieces. It was one of the most popular of all Homer Laughlin Shapes.
